Valirie Ndip

Valirie is a medical doctor and clinical epidemiologist from Cameroon. His PhD project involves using observational and genetic epidemiology (specifically mendelian randomisation) to investigate modifiable risk factors of heart failure in the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB).

His PhD project is sponsored by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom and supervised by Professor Derrick Bennett, Professor Robert Clarke, and Dr Yiping Chen. 

Valirie joined Oxford Population Health in 2019 where he completed an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology. For his MSc dissertation, he used data from the CKB to investigate the association of resting heart rate with incident heart failure and pulmonary heart disease. Valirie’s MSc was sponsored by a departmental studentship. 

Before joining Oxford Population Health, Valirie graduated with an MD degree in 2015 from the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon. After graduating from medical school, he worked as a general practitioner in a rural community for about four years during which he was actively involved in population health research alongside clinical and administrative duties.

During this time, he gained some experience in designing and implementing research studies in resource-constrained settings.
