Jiale joined CTSU and Lady Margaret Hall in 2022 as a DPhil student in the CKB research group. Under the joint supervision of Dr Huaidong Du, Dr Derrick Bennett, and Dr Fiona Bragg, his DPhil project focuses on the epidemiology of common eye diseases in the UK Biobank (UKB) and the China Kadoorie Bank (CKB) using epidemiological, statistical, and machine learning methods.

 Prior to joining Oxford, Jiale completed his undergraduate studies at Tsinghua University in 2021 and MSc Health Data Analytics and Machine Learning at Imperial College London in 2022. He has gained some research experience in bioinformatics, translational data science, and computational epidemiology.
