The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has awarded a 5-year program grant to the China Kadoorie Biobank team in China to undertake research into the genetic and non-genetic causes of ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and ischaemic stroke.

The research program led by Professor Liming Li will have 4 specific research themes, including a genome-wide association study of 2,000 ischaemic stroke cases and 2,000 controls. Based on the genetic, biological as well as lifestyle, behavioral and environmental factors generated and analysed, the study also aims to develop risk prediction models for major cardiovascular diseases in Chinese adults that will inform disease control and treatment strategies.
